What is a foam roller?
Maybe you have already seen it, people who are in the gym rolling on a (bright) colored roller. These people are “foam rolling”. Foam rolling is a form of myofascial release, which means you can release your own muscle tissue. Minor infections can form in the muscle tissue during workouts and as a result multiple body complaints and worsened blood flow could occur. With a foam roller you could reduce these complaints.

How do I use a foam roller?
How to use a foam roller is dependent on the complaints you are having. Are you having trouble with a general tension in a muscle? Then it is best to roll on the whole length of the muscle. When you are noticing you are having complaints on specific points on a muscle then its best to roll over this specific spot and to hold this for a minimum of 30 seconds. Repeat this 1-3 sets. Next to massage and the release of muscle, a foam roller is also very handy as a training tool with multiple exercises. The foam roller could for instance be used at multiple ground exercises, mobility improvements and stabilization workouts.
